OBJECTIVE

This competency-based training program is designed to equip participants with the skills to develop and manage hazardous areas verification dossier (HAVD) to AS/NZS 60079.14.

Target Workforce

The course targets the following personal responsible for Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Area (EEHA) legislative compliance during facility’s operations, maintenance and/or modification:  

  • EEHA Technicians/ Supervisors
  • Planners
  • Electrical/Instrumentation/Process engineers
  • Regulators who perform audit function and enforce compliance

 

PRE-REQUISITE

Competency to develop and manage electrical / instrumentation maintenance program at AQF 4.

Training Content

You will undergo one-on-one practical training with industry-experienced, qualified Instrument and Electrical Professional Trainers with hands on experience in hazardous areas in the following areas:

  •  Legislative and Standards requirements and specifying duties and responsibilities of all parties involved in ensuring safety of Hazardous Areas
  • Safe systems of work for Hazardous Areas
  • Competency requirements for hazardous area classification, design, installation, inspections, testing and maintenance.
  • Properties of explosive gases/vapours and combustible dusts
  • Hazardous Area Classification (HAC) principles for flammable gas and combustible dusts.
  • Explosion – protection principles and Explosion-protection (Ex) techniques
  • Interpreting Ex rated equipment nameplates and Certificates of Conformity.
  • Interpreting the relevant standards: AS/NZS 60079.14 (Ex design, selection, and installation)
  • Compiling and maintaining a Hazardous Area Verification Dossier (HAVD)
  • Developing and managing the periodic inspection of EEHA maintenance schemes

OUTCOME

Participants will be eligible for various units of competency, including:

Training Method

Blended delivery of 60% theory and 40% practical training with equipment that you are likely to see in a typical industrial installation with electrical equipment in hazardous areas (EEHA) with Ex instruments and PLC control system.

Training Method

The training employs a blended delivery approach:

  • 60% Theory and 40% Practical training.
  • The practical component includes populating Ex Register and collecting HAC and Ex Protection documents into a HAVD folder mimicking the site HAVD.
  • Delivery is Face to Face flexible or remote flexible.
