OBJECTIVE

This qualification covers competencies to select, install, commission, fault find and maintain equipment and systems for the control of plant, machines and processes.

  • To enhance students’ PLC and electrical instrumentation skills
  • To provide students’ exposure to process instrumentation and control used in the industry
  • To give an edge to enter into the oil and gas or mineral processing industry which uses PLC interfaces with HART compliant field instrumentation.

Target Workforce

Electricians and Electrical Engineers (who wish to gain competency to work on field instruments and control-systems safely).

 

Entry Requirements

  • UEE30820 Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician

or

  • A current ‘Unrestricted Electricians Licence’ or its equivalent issued in an Australian state or territory.

 

Electrical engineers who meet the pre-requisites for PLC and Instrumentation units will be issued Statement of Attainment.

WA FUNDED

Department of Training and Workforce Development (DTWD) PIT Funding may be available for eligible WA Residents.

OUTCOME

UEE40420 Cert IV Electrical Instrumentation Students will be entitled to a full qualification provided they have:

  • An unrestricted electrical license issued by a state or Territory and
  • Successfully prove competence in both theoretical and practical training

Training Content

The training will include hands-on practicals on purpose-built instrumentation skid with HART compliant field instruments:

  • Reading P&ID and 2 and 4 Wire loop drawings. Verify the drawings against as installed equipment
  • Configuring instruments using HART Modem and hand-held Communicator
  • Fault finding and solving problems in pressure, level, flow and temperature field instruments
  • Configuring and calibrating field instruments
  • Programming digital and analog PLC 
  • Downloading, testing and fault-finding PLC programs

PMV Training offers flexible training to accommodate difficult work schedules/rosters.

Training Method

  • Blended delivery of 50% theory and 50% practical
  • Hands-on training on Instrumentation and Control System that students are likely to encounter in the industry
  • In-class progressive assessment and short answer tests
