OBJECTIVE

This industry-endorsed refresher, drawn from the UEP Generation and UET Transmission, Distribution and Rail training packages, is for electrical workers and engineers who already hold High Voltage switching competencies and need to bring their knowledge and skills back up to current standards to keep writing switching sheets and performing switching operations safely.

Target Workforce

Licensed Electricians, Electrical Engineers and Power Plant Operators who develop switching programs or work as an authorised HV Switching Operator and are due to refresh their competencies.

Entry Requirements

Participants should already hold HV switching competency or a relevant Statement of Attainment. Before enrolling, we’ll need to review your qualification to confirm your units are current and acceptable for the refresher – please contact our office so we can check your eligibility. Students with an unrestricted electrical licence are eligible for units from both the UET and UEP packages; all other students are awarded units from the UEP package only.

Training Content

Delivered by trainers with 20+ years in HV switching, the course revisits control-room and in-field switching to:

  • Reinforce the hazards of switching high voltage equipment and the risk to personnel and plant when procedures aren’t followed;
  • Refresh knowledge of fault levels and how HV equipment operation affects them;
  • Confirm you can develop switching programs to safely isolate and earth HV equipment for access.

On completion, you’ll have refreshed the skills to operate and perform local HV switching, develop switching programs, control permit-to-work operations, and produce the required switching documentation.

Why Refresh?

In line with health and safety regulations and industry best practice, PMV Training recommends HV Operator competencies are refreshed every 2 to 3 years. This 2-day course is the fastest way to keep your training current.

OUTCOME

Licensed unrestricted electricians receive units from both the UET and UEP packages. Electrical Engineers and Power Plant Operators are eligible for UEP units.

Training Method

  • Blended delivery – 60% theory, 40% practical – covering how you design, write, coordinate and carry out switching programs on HV equipment you’ll meet in the field.
  • Face-to-face delivery with your trainer and assessor: work through theory, complete written assessments, then complete the practical by writing your switching sheet and switching on a SCADA schematic.
  • Trainer marks assessments and provides feedback.
  • Intensive hands-on switching, fault-finding and regulatory experience.
