OBJECTIVE

  • To develop engineering specification and design briefs for electrical engineering projects
  • To configure and maintain industrial control system networks
  • To develop and test micro controller devices
  • To use advanced computational processes to provide solutions to energy sector engineering problems
  • To develop and configure Human Machine Interface (HMI) networks
  • To plan and manage large electrical projects including contract variations, estimating projects and preparing tender submission.
  • To solve problems in complex multiple path and polyphase power circuits
  • To open more doors for you to apply for Technical Authority and Team Leadership roles in areas of electrical engineering and managing projects for compliance in hazardous areas to local regulations including and national standards.

Scope

This qualification covers competencies to design and validate/evaluate electrical equipment and systems, manage risk, estimate and manage projects and provide technical advice/sales. It develops competencies in the ethical and responsible application of mathematics, science, engineering techniques, standards and codes of practice, engineering design practices, supervision and management of physical, human and financial resources in engineering. The core competencies of this qualification meet the prescribed requirements for Engineering Associate membership of Engineers Australia. Participants seeking Engineers Australia membership should ensure that their training provider is accredited by that body to provide Engineering Education Programs at the level of Engineering Associate.

Target Workforce

This professional development gap training is aimed at electricians who and are keen on learning and gaining skills at the next level of complexity i.e., design, specification, planning and managing and auditing of instrumentation, electrical, and control systems.

The course provides competency to become a Technical Authority responsible for ensuring compliance to local regulation and AS/NZS standards.

In QLD and NSW, it is a mandatory requirement for those who are looking to progress their career to Electrical Engineering Manager for Coal Mines other than Underground mines:

a) Under NSW Work Health and Safety (Mines and Petroleum Sites)Regulation 2014 Clause 13.8.1 for Electrical Engineers for Coal Mines other than Underground mines.

b) Under QLD Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 (‘the Act’) and Section 18 of the Coal Mining Safety and Health Regulation 2001 (‘the Regulation’). The appointed person has the necessary competencies required under Section 17 of the Regulation.

Course Duration

You will have up to two years to complete your course work. You will be scheduled to attend a total of 30 days of face-to-face training. It is expected that in between sessions you will need to undertake some self-study. A shorter duration may be appropriate for those with credit transfers.

OUTCOME

Full qualification – UEE62220 Advanced Diploma of Engineering – Explosion Protection Students who hold a current unrestricted electrical license issued by a state or territory and successfully complete both theoretical and practical training and having completed all units of competency in the training package (refer https://training.gov.au/Training/Details/UEE62220), will receive the full qualification UEE62220.

Training Content

You will undergo one-on-one practical training with industry-experienced, qualified Electrical and Instrumentation Professional Trainers/ Engineers who have hands on experience in industry. The training will be conducted on the purpose-built hazardous areas and instrumentation skids with field instruments and control system that you are likely to see in a typical industrial installation:

  • Write specification and develop design briefs for electrical engineering projects
  • Configure and maintain industrial control system networks
  • Develop and test micro controller devcies
  • Develop and configure Human Machine Interface (HMI) networks
  • Plan and manage large electrical projects including contract variations, estimating projects and preparing tender submission.
  • Apply material science and physics in solving electro-technology engineering problems
  • Provide solutions for problems in complex multiple path and polyphase power circuits
  • Use advanced computational processes to solve energy sector engineering problems
  • Solve problems in complex multiple path and polyphase power circuits

Training Method

Blended delivery of 40% theory and 60% practical training with equipment that you are likely to see in a typical industrial environment with electrical, instrumentation and control system.
