This basic safety awareness course is ideal for electrical and non-electrical operators and maintainers, working in or around explosive atmospheres; and supervisors and managers who have no electrical background but are responsible for managing hazardous areas.
It covers the legislative requirements of hazardous area installations and provides an overview of the Australian standards AS/NZS 4761, AS/NZS 60079.14 and AS/NZS 60079.17 and how and why these standards need to be implemented in the field, under WHS/OHS duty of care obligations.
It covers the management obligations under WHS/OHS legislation for setting up and maintaining a safe systems work system and upholding permit to work systems on site with hazardous areas.
It provides an introduction to explosion-protected equipment and explains how to read hazardous area classification drawings and interpret equipment markings.
Participants will be required to sit for one short answer test paper and upon successful completion of the course, a Statement of Completion will be issued.
There are no prerequisites for this course.
Note: Typically, a minimum of eight participants are required to run the course.
